Wisdom for Service: The Sum of It All

As we close out our sermon series on Ecclesiastes this week, we've journeyed through the Preacher's honest exploration of life "under the sun” -- a look at the fleeting nature of human endeavors and the search for lasting meaning. We've wrestled with themes of vanity, striving, and the pursuit of satisfaction on earth apart from God.

Yet, interestingly enough, Ecclesiastes ends not in despair, but in a liberating conclusion. The true wisdom for life, and crucially, for our service, is broken down into this timeless truth:

"The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil." (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)

This passage has been the memory verse of the PRETZ, youth, and young adults in the past couple of months and is the heart of what it means to have wisdom in serving. It’s a reminder for us that our efforts and acts of service, when rooted in reverence for God and obedience to His commands, are not vain. If every deed will be judged, then everything we do matters. Every moment, every talent, every act of kindness we offer for His glory carries eternal impact and significance.

As we move on from this series, let us be grounded, in our ministries and daily lives in this wisdom, to fear God and keep His commandments. May our service be done diligently, joyfully, and with purpose, driven by the knowledge that in and through God, our labor is meaningful.

To God be the glory!
