September 21, 2025 - INSCRIPTIONS FROM THE HEART
Abby Cheng
As an RN (registered nurse), I get the privilege of working with patients who are very thankful for the care they receive. Unfortunately, there are also those who are less than pleased with the same care, whether it be because the nurses took too long to answer their call bell, the food was cold when they received it, the doctor didn't listen to their concerns, etc. etc. If you work in healthcare, you know there are valid reasons for the shortcomings in our healthcare system that just cannot be solved by those on the front lines or even the managers directly above them. The main people that could effect change are those in the provincial government, namely the premier and health minister. I wish I could tell disgruntled patients to take up their concerns with Danielle Smith, but contacting the leader of the province isn't as easy as dialing a phone number or sending an email. Even though they claim to be public servants, our political leaders aren't the most available to the average citizen.
All glory to Jesus Christ, who “did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself,” took on human flesh and thus made Himself eternally available to lowly humans. By becoming human and dying on the cross for our sins, the Lord of all creation made a way for us to directly access and communicate with Him. Unlike our earthly leaders, Jesus is just a simple prayer away, and we can be assured that He always hears and is always listening. As we focus on Availability this week for the Serving Challenge, let's remember how God moved heaven and earth to become available to His precious creation. Are we willing to lay aside our busyness and comforts and be available to serve like Jesus?
