February 1, 2026 - INSCRIPTIONS FROM THE HEART
Cheryl Zamora
From the very beginning of Scripture, God shows that He is not moved by the appearance of worship but by the heart behind it. Abel and Cain both brought offerings. Both approached God. Both participated in worship. Yet only one sacrifice was called “better.”
Why? Because Abel’s offering flowed from faith — a trust that God is worthy, God is good, and God deserves the first and best. Cain’s offering, by contrast, was given without that inward posture of surrender. The issue wasn’t the gift; it was the heart.
This theme echoes throughout the Bible:
God tells Saul that obedience is better than sacrifice.
The prophets warn that God rejects worship offered with divided hearts.
Jesus teaches that true worshipers worship in spirit and in truth.
The message is unmistakable: God desires worship that comes from faith — not performance, not pressure, not habit, but trust. Faith transforms worship from a ritual into a relationship. Faith turns giving into gratitude. Faith turns obedience into joy. Faith turns sacrifice into something “better.”
God isn’t asking us for a perfect offering. He’s inviting us to bring a faithful one.
Let us ask ourselves:
Am I giving God my heart or just my habits?
Am I offering Him trust or only tasks?
Am I worshiping from love or from obligation?
A better sacrifice isn’t about doing more — it’s about believing more deeply. It’s about approaching God with a heart that says: “Lord, You are worthy of my best, and I trust You with all I bring.”
