May 24, 2026 - INSCRIPTIONS FROM THE HEART

Cheryl Zamora

In Mark 9:14-29, Jesus walks into chaos — arguing crowds, confused disciples, and a father whose hope is hanging by a thread. The man’s words are painfully honest: “I believe; help my unbelief.” It’s not polished faith. It’s not confident faith. It’s real faith.

And Jesus receives it.

The disciples had tried to cast out the spirit but couldn’t. They weren’t lazy; they were simply relying on their own strength. Jesus’ final words — that “this kind can come out only by prayer” — remind us that some of our life battles aren’t won by effort, strategy, or willpower. They’re won by dependence. Prayer isn’t a last resort. It’s the posture that says, “I can’t, but You can.”

I believe that this passage invites us to: 1) Honest faith — God isn’t asking for perfection, only truthfulness. 2) Dependent prayer — not a ritual, but a lifeline. 3) Spiritual perseverance — some breakthroughs take time, trust, and returning to God again and again.

Let us bring to God’s throne of grace, our honest doubts, our impossible situations, our desire for deeper prayer and our longing for spiritual strength. Jesus meets us where faith feels thin and life feels heavy.
