May 17, 2026 - INSCRIPTIONS FROM THE HEART
Pastor Immanuel Garcera
As we get back into our new series on the Gospel of Mark, one thing that comes to mind is the tone of urgency found in Mark’s writing. I’m sure a lot of us could relate to that mode of urgency, for such is the way of life here in Canada. We not only do things immediately, but we do many things simultaneously. We work, we go to school, we volunteer in ministry, we take care of our physical health, mental health, relationships, etc, etc, etc.
And then, in comes Jesus. In the first chapter of Mark, it says, “Jesus said to them, 'Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.' And immediately they left their nets and followed him.” (Mark 1:17-18) Jesus says, “follow me”, and they left their nets immediately. The first disciples that followed Jesus had nets because they were fishermen. It was part of their day-to-day activity, their way of making a living. My question for us is how is God calling us and what are we in the middle of? How is He calling us despite being busy with school, work, relationships, all the things I mentioned above!
Church, the call of Jesus doesn’t always happen on our schedule, at a time we set specifically to encounter God. If anything, Jesus calls us to faithfully follow Him in the midst of the things we are already doing, sometimes pulling us out of the things we do in our very busy day-to-day lives. As Jesus calls us to follow Him, how will we respond?
To God be the glory!
