Good News of Great Joy
For some of us, Christmas season started way back in September. Gifts are planned out and bought already. For a lot of us, we do the things that need doing throughout the month or leave everything to the last minute making this very joyous season also very busy. As we move from a posture of reflection from this week’s Solemn Assembly, let’s look toward the celebration of Jesus’ birth! As the angels and the shepherds proclaimed:
"Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:10-11, ESV)
The angel didn’t just bring good news, but also great joy -- meant not just for Christians, but for all people. For unto us, a child is born, a Son is given. This joy comes from anchoring the event on the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Let’s remember the reason for the season, remember to slow down -- not just because the roads are bad again, but to take in the wonder of the incarnation. As God came down to be with us, His people, to bring peace between us and the Father. Truly, Good News brings great joy.
To God be the glory!
