Jesus is Worth It
As believers in this journey of faith we usually meet two kinds of people, saints who are happy to trudge along the narrow path and those who visibly struggle. This is the reality of our world, but the truth is -- as beautiful this journey is with Christ, it’s not always easy. Choosing to follow Christ means we must face hardship. This is often called, “the cost of discipleship”. The Word of God gives us encouragement through the Apostle Paul in this way:
“I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ” (Philippians 3:8)
Apostle Paul understood that even if we lost everything to gain Christ, it will be all worth it. Have we come to understand this truth? That when Jesus is at the center of our lives, we live in His strength that He provides today and we have great hope for tomorrow. Though we face troubles, they are temporary. Yet we look to eternity with Christ, anything we give up in this world therefore is small or of lesser value in comparison to the things of God enjoyed in eternity.
Church, let’s be encouraged and uplift one another, both the happily trudging to the faithfully struggling -- even if the road is narrow and the cost seems high, we are not alone. We have a Lord that has walked this path before us Himself and we have a Saviour that has given us hope of eternity. Trade the things of this world to the surpassing worth of drawing near to Christ today. He is our prize, our strength, our hope.
To God be the glory!
